日本とアメリカ　裁判員制度

On May 21st, Japan will introduce reformed civilized legal system. Six citizens will now participate in a criminal trial along with three professional judges. Similar systems are in place in some other countries such as the USA, the UK, France, Germany, Italy and so forth. Is this going to be beneficial for residents in Japan? How is the current legal system in the USA providing justice to residents there? John Visher, Esq., an experienced American attorney, will share his 23 years of experience of comparing and contrasting the new reform with that of Japan.

来る5月21日より、日本において「裁判員制度」が実施されます。裁判員制度とは，選ばれた6名の国民が、裁判員として刑事裁判に参加し，被告人が有罪かどうか，有罪の場合どのような刑にするかを、3名の裁判官と一緒に決める制度です。国民が裁判に参加する制度は，すでに，米国、英国，フランス，ドイツ，イタリア等で行われています。今回、日米の法律に詳しく経験豊かなアメリカ人弁護士のヴィッシャーさんが、米国での「裁判員制度」と日本の同制度を対比しながら、分かり易くお話くださいます。ぜひ、ご参加ください。

John C. Visher, Esq., is an experienced American attorney working in Japan since the late 80’s, helping and guiding foreigners living in Japan including US Navy. He has experience in all fields of law, and actively visits various courts in Tokyo and Yokohama as an observer.
